Thomas ZugibeThomas Zugibe was elected Rockland County District Attorney in 2007.

Since taking office in January, 2008, Mr. Zugibe has instituted numerous initiatives including Community Prosecution, the creation of the Special Victims Unit and a countywide expansion of the High School Intervention and Diversion Program. His leadership has resulted in the successful prosecution of several high-profile, corruption and tax fraud-related cases. Mr. Zugibe leads a staff of thirty prosecutors.

Prior to his election, D.A. Zugibe worked for two decades in private practice with an emphasis on personal injury and commercial litigation. In 1988, he partnered with Arthur J. Ferraro, Esq., a former Bronx County Prosecutor and one of the leading trial lawyers in the region. Tom and Art have continued as law partners for more than twenty years.

Between 1981 and 1987, Mr. Zugibe served as a prosecutor in the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office, where he was promoted to Executive Assistant District Attorney. His tenure in the District Attorney’s Office included directing the Narcotics Division and Major Offenses Division. During this period, Tom investigated and tried several complex "white collar" cases and obtained felony trial convictions in several Murder and Manslaughter cases.

District Attorney Zugibe began his legal career as a Special Assistant Attorney General in the Office of the New York State Deputy Attorney General for Medicaid Fraud Control under now-Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes and the late Robert J. Meehan, a former Rockland County District Attorney and County Court Judge.

In 1980, Thomas Zugibe was admitted to the New York Bar and the Federal District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. In 1976, he enrolled in St. John's University School of Law. Tom received his undergraduate degree in 1975 from Manhattan College. He graduated from North Rockland High School in 1971.

D.A. Zugibe learned the importance of family, community service and hard work from his father, Dr. Frederick T. Zugibe, who served as Rockland County's first Chief Medical Examiner from 1969 through 2003, and from his mother, the former Catherine O’Leary, a professional dressmaker and business owner.

District Attorney Zugibe is married to his high school sweetheart, the former Peggy Striletz, a special education teacher who serves on both the North Rockland Board of Education and the Rockland County School Boards Association. The couple has four grown children.

Thomas Zugibe was born in Rockland County on February 13, 1953.
