Rockland County District Attorney Thomas P. Zugibe today announced that Matthew Stoll (DOB 08/04/62) of 107 Somerset Drive, Suffern, New York has been arrested and arraigned for stealing more than $130,000 from his condo association, where he served as treasurer.

Stoll is charged with: • One count of Grand Larceny in the Second Degree, a class “C” Felony

Between January, 2004 and November, 2009, Stoll, while holding the treasurer position on the board of the Sussex Condominium III, stole $130,345.50 by writing association checks to himself and other family members. The defendant was arrested during a search warrant on his residence where evidence was seized from his home.

The defendant became the Treasurer of the Board of Managers in January, 2004. On January 15, 2004, he became authorized to sign checks on behalf of the Board for the expenses of the condominium. From January, 2004 until November, 2009, he wrote 47 checks from association’s checking account that were made payable to himself and relatives.

The theft was discovered on December 3, 2009 during a regularly scheduled budget meeting between the defendant and several board members. The fraud was quickly brought to the attention of the Rockland County Special Investigations Unit.

Throughout his tenure as Treasurer, Stoll prepared monthly written financial statements and supplied them to the Board. These statements contained false information to hide the theft.

The defendant was arraigned Friday before the Honorable Matthew J. Byrnes. Bail was set at $100,000 bond or $50,000 cash and the defendant was remanded to the Rockland County jail.

Stoll is due to return to court on December 23, 2009.

He faces five to fifteen years in state prison.

The arrest of the defendant resulted from an investigation conducted by the Rockland County Special Investigations Unit and the Rockland County Computer Crime Unit.
